Esta palestra explora espa\u00e7os de aprendizagem flex\u00edveis como um desafio de design que vai al\u00e9m de mobili\u00e1rio, ferramentas e layouts de salas: a flexibilidade tamb\u00e9m reside em como as atividades s\u00e3o estruturadas, como a participa\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 incentivada e como os mentores equilibram estrutura com autonomia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Com base em dois estudos complementares, apresento uma estrutura orientada para a pr\u00e1tica para projetar Fab Labs como ambientes de aprendizagem de lazer que empoderam os jovens. Primeiramente, discuss\u00f5es em grupos focais com 61 adolescentes (n\u00e3o-makers; com idades entre 11 e 16 anos) revelam o que impede os jovens de se juntarem a espa\u00e7os maker \u2014 e o que realmente os atrairia. As barreiras inclu\u00edam prop\u00f3sito pouco claro, custos presumidos, restri\u00e7\u00f5es de tempo, fadiga com a sustentabilidade e baixa autoefic\u00e1cia, enquanto os fatores de atra\u00e7\u00e3o se concentravam no valor intr\u00ednseco, na personaliza\u00e7\u00e3o, em \u201ccriar para os outros\u201d, em colegas inspiradores e em uma atmosfera acolhedora que transmite autonomia e divers\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Em segundo lugar, compartilho insights de uma interven\u00e7\u00e3o de pesquisa baseada em design (tr\u00eas itera\u00e7\u00f5es; 66 participantes com idades entre 9 e 13 anos) que traduziu essas necessidades em um caminho pr\u00e1tico, do workshop ao laborat\u00f3rio aberto. Aqui, o pensamento de design serviu como um andaime \u201csemiestruturante\u201d, apoiando a gera\u00e7\u00e3o de ideias e a busca produtiva de solu\u00e7\u00f5es sem transformar o Fab Lab em uma escola. As principais estrat\u00e9gias de design inclu\u00edram momentos de entrada com barreiras de entrada, andaimes adequados para crian\u00e7as, pr\u00e1ticas de constru\u00e7\u00e3o de comunidade, diretrizes rigorosas para mentores e elementos participativos para fortalecer o engajamento individual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Os participantes sair\u00e3o com princ\u00edpios de design concretos para espa\u00e7os de aprendizagem flex\u00edveis em tr\u00eas camadas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">(1) acesso e convite (como convidamos faz parte de como projetamos),<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">(2) arquitetura de atividades (estrutura com liberdade) e<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">(3) infraestrutura relacional (mentoria para autonomia, compet\u00eancia e relacionamento) \u2014 prontos para serem adaptados aos seus pr\u00f3prios laborat\u00f3rios e comunidades locais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>Fab Labs are often described as \u201copen\u201d and \u201cflexible\u201d by default\u2014yet many young people still never walk through the door, and those who do may not automatically experience agency, belonging, or competence. This talk explores flexible learning spaces as a design challenge that goes beyond furniture, tools, and room layouts: flexibility also lives in how activities are framed, how participation is invited, and how mentors balance structure with autonomy.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>Building on two complementary studies, I present a practice-oriented framework for designing Fab Labs as empowering leisure-time learning environments. First, focus group discussions with 61 adolescents (non-makers; aged 11\u201316) reveal what keeps young people from joining makerspaces in the first place\u2014and what would genuinely attract them. Barriers included unclear purpose, assumed costs, time constraints, sustainability fatigue, and low self-efficacy, while promoters centered on intrinsic value, personalization, \u201cmaking for others,\u201d inspiring peers, and a welcoming atmosphere that signals autonomy and fun.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><em>Second, I share insights from a design-based research intervention (three iterations; 66 participants aged 9\u201313) that translated these needs into an actionable workshop-to-open-lab pathway. Here, design thinking served as a \u201csemi-structuring\u201d scaffold\u2014supporting idea generation and productive struggle without turning the Fab Lab into school.
